Seminar; Students will develop and implement a real project

Starting with general aspects of project management the course will particularly discuss management approaches, methods, and tools which are relevant for an international project environment:



  • What's a project?

  • What's a project that needs "project management"?

  • Project management versus general management

  • The 3 schools of project thinking

  • How to design a project?

  • How to plan, organize and administrate a project?

  • How to lead a project?

General requirements of the master program


Knowledge of basics of ‘project management’ acquired in a bachelor programme and/or from preparatory reading for the course

Seminar (Contact time: 64 hrs), face-to-face

Lernergebnisse und Kompetenzen

Students will learn to initialize, execute and close international projects.


Upon completion of the module students:


-  have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of project management in an international context;


-  can skilfully apply and combine project management methods from various “schools” (agile, traditional, etc.);


-  can apply their theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to a complex project;


-  have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and make decisions based on incomplete or limited information in a project context (incl. reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities);


-  can communicate their project results, and the rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously;


-  have gained meta-learning skills, which allow them to continuously build up on their knowledge, in a self-organized way.

Verwendbarkeit des Moduls

It needs to be seen in strong connection to several other modules which apply students' projects. The students will need to apply their International Project Management Skills in order to properly manage their work packages.

Type of course unit: compulsory. Assessment methods and criteria: combined examination. 50% written examination, 90 min (ILO 1,2,3,5), 50 % oral examination (ILO 2,4,5).
